Harm of rail gnawing of gantry crane

May 30, 2022

1. Reduce wheel service life

Generally speaking, the service life of general gantry crane is about 10 years. If serious rail gnawing occurs, it will cause serious wear to the wheels, and the service life of the wheels will be reduced to 1 to 2 years, or even shorter. According to the relevant safety standards, when the wear degree of the wheel flange reaches 50% of the original thickness, it must be replaced. The common ones are rail mounted container gantry crane, container gantry crane, fixed-point gantry crane, etc.

2. The wear speed of the track becomes faster

The steel rail of gantry crane is generally made of 45MN steel, and the wheel is often made of 45# steel, so the hardness of the steel rail is higher than that of the two. When gnawing the rail, the iron filings from the wheel wear fall on the top of the rail, plus the lateral force generated by gnawing the rail, which will make the rail horizontal offset. If it cannot be repaired in time, it will eventually lead to the scrapping of the rail. Common ones are MHB type semi gantry electric hoist crane, large gantry crane, engineering gantry crane, etc.

3. Running resistance increases

When the gantry crane gnaws the rail, the lateral force and friction between the wheel and the rail greatly increase the resistance of the wheel operation, increase the power consumption of the driving motor, and increase the working intensity of the transmission mechanism. In serious cases, the motor may be burned out due to excessive current for a long time, and the transmission shaft may be damaged.
